Hi! I’m Phil Sterne
I help experienced professionals work out what’s next for their careers.
Sometimes that means helping someone secure a new role. Sometimes it's exploring consultancy, juggling the “should I stay or should I go” dilemma, rebuilding confidence after a setback, or simply untangling a decision that's been occupying more headspace than it deserves.
Over the last 25 years I've worked in recruitment, talent and career development, helping more than 700 professionals navigate career change, secure leadership roles, build consulting businesses and create opportunities for themselves.
Why work with me?
AI can help you write and generate ideas.
A CV writer can help you produce a better CV.
A coach can help you think differently.
What I do sits somewhere in the middle.
What I don’t do is use convoluted frameworks or branded coaching tools. I won’t take you through an 8-step process. Nor will I try to fit you into a rigid package of support or a “signature programme”.
I bring decades of recruitment experience, hundreds of CV projects and years of coaching conversations to help people make sense of where they are, what they have to offer and what they want next.
People think the value is in the document. It's not—it’s in the conversation.
It's asking questions you've never been asked before.
Spotting strengths you've overlooked.
Challenging assumptions.
Finding the thread running through a career that might otherwise look disconnected.
Helping you articulate the value you bring with confidence and clarity.
The CV, LinkedIn profile or interview preparation are often the outputs. The real work is helping you see yourself and your options more clearly.
A little background
Before becoming self-employed, I spent many years in recruitment and talent acquisition, working both in agencies and in-house. Along the way I've reviewed thousands of CVs, interviewed countless candidates and gained a front-row seat to how careers are built, stalled, reinvented and occasionally blown up entirely.
I'm also the author of Escape Corporate W@nkery, a book written for people who know there's more to life than endlessly climbing a ladder they never really wanted to be on in the first place.
Outside of work
When I'm not working, you'll usually find me on a mountain bike, playing guitar and singing in my band, exploring somewhere in the motorhome, or writing about work, life and whatever else happens to be rattling around my head.
If you're at a crossroads and wondering what comes next, I'd love to hear from you.
